Did You Vote?
If you are a citizen of the United States and are registered to vote, did you vote today? Practice makes perfect. When a citizen takes the time to gather information and participate in the political community, they then become an empowered citizen. An empowered citizen is a good citizen. It is an effective citizen exercising his or her rights and beliefs that change what is wrong in their communities. Good citizens take responsibility for their communities. Good citizens understand how government works and how problems are created and solved. Good citizens are responsible citizens. If citizens have responsibilities, then it makes sense that there will be consequences for ignoring their responsibilities.
In the United States, citizens have rights—the First Amendment rights to freedom of speech, press, assembly, and petition. We also have the freedom of religion. The freedom of religion works along with the freedom to assemble. In our constitution, churches have the right to worship God, preach his word, and assemble as believers. This is a citizen’s right. These rights carry weighty responsibilities. Churches are the light and salt in the earth, and Christians should lead the example in civic duty. Our lamp should not be hidden. It is to shine out like the city on a hill. Unfortunately, in Washington State, the church stays tucked away in a cave while Ahab and Jezebel rule. I pray that the fire of Elijah comes and delivers God’s people from wavering and hiding from government and governmental decisions.
It is easy to vote in Washington but hard to remove the blinders from people’s complacency and ignorance. The ignorance is that when our cities are bombarded with crime, drugs, homelessness, and sexual perversion with trafficking, we don’t realize that this is the consequence of our complacency.
So again, I ask the question, did you vote today?
